One-Rise One-Hour White Bread!

OK, who doesn’t love bread, especially homemade bread? If you’re thinking about how hard and complicated it is I encourage you to try this one! It is SO easy and totally doable for a beginner!

This is actually the only bread recipe I’ve ever used! I think I tried to make rolls one time or something and it didn’t turn out… Anyways, I haven’t really ever tried other recipes because this one is so easy, and always delicious!

Be sure you accommodate for where you live. If you’re making this when it’s cold out (or you keep your AC at 64 lol), be sure to let your dough rise in a warm oven. If it’s dry where you live, expect to add more water.

Ingredients

  • 5 1/4 cups bread flour (I buy Organic, unbleached)
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. rounded dry yeast (or three packs of Fleischmann’s yeast)
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. oil (I think you can use whatever oil you prefer, but I use avocado.)
  • 2 cups of warm water. Personally, I temp my water to 90ish degrees. If you use too hot of water (above 105, you’ll kill your yeast).

Directions

  1. Add dry ingredients to Kitchen Aid or mixing bowl. Use bread hook attachment and mix on low, a few turns are fine. Add oil and water and mix for one minute. Your dough should be pretty sticky. I usually end up adding another Tbsp or so, especially when I was in CO.
  2. Now let your mixer do the work for 5 minutes. In the meantime spray a surface (do NOT use flour for this, you’ll make the dough tough) to knead the dough a little more before rising. Set your oven to the lowest heat like 170 or 150 Fahrenheit and heavily wet a towel. Prepare a baking sheet big enough for 2 loaves, I just spray mine.
  3. After 5 minutes, knead the dough just enough that you can get the surface smooth and even shape. Wet a kitchen knife, and cut in half, or more depending on how many loaves you want.
  4. Fold the dough into desired shapes and place on sprayed baking sheets. Place these in the oven on the lowest heat with the wet towel. I don’t like to place anything on top of the loaves as it seems to weigh them down and not rise as well. Let rise for 25 minutes.
  5. Set the oven to 350. Pull out the loaves, wet a kitchen knife and make 2-3 cuts into the top of the bread. This helps with the bread tearing when baking but also looks pretty!
  6. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or until lightly browned! You can brush the dough with a little egg wash or spritz with water if you like that crunchy crust!
The dough should look like this, or wetter.
Place dough on cookie sheets to rise in the oven.

If you like the look of traditional loaves, you can totally use loaf pans!

One of my FAV. things to eat with this bread is some avocado or olive oil, salt, and Italian seasoning! Would be amazing with some balsamic if you have it.

Some people say to only use bread flour, but if regular is all you have that will work!

This bread only keeps for about 3-5 days depending on if it’s in the fridge or not, so plan some other meals around it! We love using it for grilled cheese sandwiches!

Now, slather on some butter and enjoy! I hope you love it just as much as I do! If you make it, send me some pictures and comment to let me know. If you have a go-to bread recipe I would love to try it, so send it my way on Instagram at @mrshopehavens!
